Kintsugi (2024)
Choreographed by Mia Crider
Kintsugi (2024)
Kintsugi, choreographed by Mia Crider, follows the practice of Kintsugi, a Japanese art form where pottery is purposefully broken and then mended with gold. Seven dancers embody pieces of a broken pot and embark on spiritual journeys, healing themselves and those around them to unite into a new form; embracing each other's imperfections.
Mia learned of Kintsugi when her high school pottery project exploded in the kiln. Saddened by the destruction of her art, she decided to repair it and add gold to the cracks, making something even more unique and special. Others also practice the art form in a spiritual sense. Instead of hiding imperfections and insecurities, putting themselves back together after being "broken" and embracing their flaws. Mia collaborated with her dancers to show the stages of this process: Pristine, Broken, Gold, and New.
This piece was curated for Mia's Senior project class and was performed in a showcase with her peers called Mosaic.

In Between (2022)
Mia Crider was invited back to her hometown studio Holly Springs School of Dance Directed by Marilyn Chappell as a Guest Artist to audition dancers in the Springs Dance Companies' Senior Company and set original work. Mia drew inspiration from her personal quarrels of having multiple places to call "home" but never feeling settled in one place because of constantly moving to and from. With traveling between College in New Jersey, her mom's home in North Carolina, and her Dad's in South Carolina, she would begin to feel comfort when it was time to leave again. In collaboration with her cast of 9 dancers, she created this piece to be shown at Hope Community Church for their 2022 Senior Solo Concert.
